My partner Carmen has lived with rheumatoid arthritis since her mid-forties and over the years this \u201csilent\u201d\u00a0condition has manifested in mis-shaped fingers, pain, stiffness and difficulty in many tasks, even the\u00a0simplest ones, and overflows into frustration, anger and, in addition, of feeling tired, clumsy and slow.<\/p>\n

Over a million people suffer from this disease in Mexico; 75% are women. Worldwide this figure rises to 100\u00a0million, but there is little projection from a personal or artistic point of view.\u00a0The hope is that this project will be, in its small way, a representation of the people who live with this\u00a0condition by highlighting Carmen\u2019s daily life with the rheumatism while maintaining a successful academic\u00a0career, demonstrate the normality and the frustrations of living with this illness, and hopefully act as an\u00a0acknowledgment of her strength and perseverance.<\/p>\n

We started this project during the COVID pandemic while working from home and where the majority of\u00a0the images were taken.<\/p>\n
